Photo Blog - Sopo, Cundinamarca

A photo blog on capturing scenes of daily life and architecture in Sopo, Cundinamarca.

The church at the center of Sopo, the architecture is simple yet pretty. For me though, it reminds me of a face with open mouth. Once you see it you cannot unsee it. The offical name of the church is

Iglesia Divino Salvador de Sopó

This picture is that of a recycling bin in Sopo. This is from CAR Cundinamarca that is short for Corporación Autónoma Regional that works on environmental projects in the region.

This is right in the center on the other side of the church. The center does not have a plaza unlike a lot more touristic places, yet this has its own charm and character. This officially is called Parque de los Tibas.

This is the culture house of Sopo -

Casa de la Cultura

This is the municipal palace of Sopo -

Palacio Municipal

The fountain in the center that has tributes to the Muisca culture that was predominant before the advent of the Spanish.

This was my lunch on that day, a nice soup and a full course meal

The restuarant was called Veeya, right in the center.

These 3 pictures were just too cute for me to add them. This is a little girl, that is in the park enjoying the day, has her little ruana. It was a windy day, and her father, covers her head so that it is not too cold and then she continues her walk.

I found this street art on the way to Santuario El Señor de la piedra

Another street art on the way to the beautiful sanctuary.

The plants along the walls of the house made for an amazing architecture according to me.
This is the entrance to the Sanctuary Iglesia Santuario del Señor de la piedra
A little walk up this hill leads you the church.

The sanctuary is very well maintained and has some beautiful gardens.
The richly decorated interior of the church was so peaceful and empty when I went

This is just from outside of the church towards the exit.

Back in the center, I wanted to drink something - Tartine is just the place, a cosy little coffee shop run by an Argentenian who makes the best Chai - Indian spicy tea. I have known him from previous visits and hence make it  a point to visit this place each time I go to Sopo

The chai (not the chai tea, it literally means the same)

Outside the coffee shop, a snap towards the rural veredas of Sopo

Back in the center, the church was open for the evening prayers.

A simple, yet elegant interior.

This was the Christmas week, hence the lights were on, which were simply pretty.

This was some of the lights of the restaurant Paprika Cocina a la leña where I had some evening snacks

This is just along the street from the square.

The main square in the night.
